Hillary Rosner

Science Journalist and Editor

I’ve reported on the environment from across the U.S. and around the world for publications including National Geographic, The New York Times, The Atlantic, Wired, Men’s Journal, Scientific American, bioGraphic, Undark, Nautilus, Mother Jones, Popular Science, High Country News, The Boston Globe, The Denver Post, OnEarth, Audubon, Smithsonian, Slate, and Grist.

I’m proud that my work has won several awards over the years, including two AAAS-Kavli Awards and others from the Society of Environmental Journalists and the National Association of Science Writers. I’ve also been a Ted Scripps Fellow, a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at MIT, and an Alicia Patterson Fellow. I’m a frequent speaker at workshops and seminars on science communication, and I love teaching scientists how to write about their own work.

There are so many stories to tell about the natural world…

my 2025 book, Roam: Wild Animals and the Race to Repair Our Fractured World, explores the quest to stitch our fragmented planet back together, and chronicles some of the passionate people working to reconnect the Earth’s landscapes for the other species that live here.

I’ve also written a short book about lichens and the people obsessed with them, for the wonderful series Studies in Nature, published by Timber Press. Coming in 2027!
